Full Description

Former National School building. T-shape plan form single storey buff brick building in Flemish Bond, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. A flat-roofed brick extension has been built to the east. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the school was built as a National School in 1835. {2} Plans were made to increase capacity at the school after the expansion of accommodation at RAF Coningsby in the 1940s, specifically for married servicemen. By the early 1960s these issues hadn't been resolved, and it was decided that a new junior school was needed, with infants remaining at the old school. This led to the erection of the first buildings on the current primary school site. At some point before 1994, the old school building had fallen into disuse, and was described by a local as a "boarded-up eyesore". The building appears disused in 2009, and is now occupied by a private childcare centre. {3}{4}{5}
