Full Description

Former school and schoolmaster's house. One and a half/two storey L-shape plan form buff brick building, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. A modern gabled range has been added to the rear, and is not seen on the 1906 OS map. Polychromatic brick decoration on window surrounds. Roof is a modern replacement and contains three gabled dormers. {1}{2} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the National School was erected in 1858, with a house for the master. In 1872 its average attendance was around 70 pupils. {3} It is unclear when the building ceased to be used as a school.
