Full Description

Former National School. Two storey red brick building in English Bond, under a pitched gabled tile roof. The window openings have been partially infilled and the windows are modern uPVC replacements. One large gable stack. The scar of a demolished wing can be seen at the southern end of the southwest elevation. This wing can be seen on the 1906 OS map of the village. There seem to have been no other major structural alterations in the 20th and 21st centuries {1}{2} The school building was originally constructed in 1855 to provide education for children from the parishes of Moorby, Wood Enderby, Claxby, and Wilksby. It was enlarged in the 1870s 'to meet the requirements of the Education Act 1870'. {3}{4} The school was closed in the late 1950s or early 1960s as part of a development plan that saw children transferred to nearby Mareham-le-Fen school. {5}
