Former school and schoolmaster's house. The school building is a one storey painted brick building, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. One original gabled porch, one modern lean-to extension replacing a second porch seen on the 1906 OS map. The schoolmaster’s residence is a two storey red brick building with buff brick banding, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. Stone window sills and lintels. Two large gable stacks. Decorative ceramic ridge tiles. {1}{2} A Free School was built in the village as early as 1704. The school was rebuilt on a new site with a house for the teacher in 1823, at cost of £170. This was demolished in the 1870s, with a new school building and schoolmaster's house built on the same site, at a cost of £500. {3}{4} The school was closed in the early 1980s. {5}
