Full Description
Former school building, now in use as a village hall. Single storey cross-wing red brick building in English Bond, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. Sympathetic modern extension to the north. {1}
White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the first school in the parish was established in 1727 by Mrs Jane Dymoke, wife of the King's Champion. This was held in a schoolroom within a tenement of almshouses in the village (MLI40322). A schoolmaster's house is also mentioned as part of the property belonging to the charity. {2}
The 1872 Directory notes that a new school was built in 1865 (likely the current building). The old schoolroom was used as a girls' school. {3}
It was recommended in 1969 that the school be closed due to low attendance, though it is unclear how soon after this recommendation was made that the school was closed. {4}
