Full Description

Former school. The building appears on the 1906 OS map in an irregular H-shape plan form. The current building on the site is a large two storey house, painted white, with a T-shape plan form. The roof pitch of the single storey front range of the house has a shallower roof pitch and a string course below eaves height; t is possible that this range may be a survival from the original school building. {1}{2} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that a Free School was built in 1842 and enlarged in 1871, when a schoolmaster's residence was also constructed. At the time it was attended by more than 50 pupils. {3}
