Full Description

Scatter of 2nd to 3rd century Roman pottery was found on the surface, and from excavations of the area around the main doors, during the building of the junior school on the Wood Farm Estate, Boston. The informant is not known locally and the finds were not traced. {1}{2}{3} Cheese wring in Greyware found in the school garden in 1965. {4}{5} Roman activity was revealed in 2010, during archaeological monitoring and recording at St Nicholas Church of England Primary School, Woad Road, Boston. A layer containing 94 sherds of Roman pottery, dating mostly from the late 2nd to early 3rd century and fired clay was found, along with two irregular linear features, one containing a small assemblage of Roman pottery, mainly from the 3rd century and fired clay and the other containing a large amount of Roman pottery including samian ware and amphorae, mostly dating from the late 2nd century. The terminal of a ditch or large pit, also probably Roman, was also found. {6}{7}
