Full Description

Former school building, now in use as a village hall. Single storey whitewashed brick building, under a pitched gabled roof. An extension was added to the building in the 1870s. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the school was erected, with a teacher's residence, in 1840 as a National School at a cost of £300. It was attended at that time by 45 children of both sexes. {2} The former school building is shown in its current plan form on the 1887, 1906, and 1950 OS maps, and is marked as a school on all three. The school is presumed to have closed at some point after the production of the 1950 map. The building to the west of the hall, also shown on all three maps, may be the teacher's residence mentioned by White. It is now in use as two cottages. {3}{4}{5}
