Full Description
Former school buildings. The western building is a two storey, two bay buff brick construction, under a pitched gabled roof of pantile. String course below the eaves with a dentil course on the gable ends. Two decorative gable stacks. Several first storey extensions to the sides and rear. Two date stones on the front elevation, one reading 'B' and the other '1845'. The eastern building is a single storey rendered building, which appears to have been significantly altered. A dentil course below the eaves, hidden behind modern guttering, may be original. {1}
White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the village had a Free School at the time, which was due to be enlarged by the lord of the manor. {2}
Both buildings can be seen on the 1887, 1906, and 1950 OS maps of the village, though the plan form of both appears to have been extended to the rear between 1887 and 1906. {3}{4}{5}
