Full Description

Large school building dating to the 19th century. Seven bay red brick construction in English Bond with black brick diapering, under a pitched gabled troof of slate. Parapet gables with moulded stone shoulders and concrete coping. Two tiered brick buttresses with brick tumbling. Two small lancet windows at gable end with wooden louvres. Large windows. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory mentions a National School, constructed in the town in 1822—this is believed to be the building on Willingham Road (MLI126460)—and day schools associated with the Wesleyan chapel built in 1871 at cost of £1000. It is not clear if this building is the result of one of those foundations. {2} The schoolroom is present in its current plan form, as the sole school building. on the 1887 and 1906 OS maps of Market Rasen. By the time of the 1950 OS map, a quadrangle of further buildings had been added to the school. {3}{4}{5}
