Full Description

Former school. It is unclear how much of the original school building is extant within the current structure. It retains no external characteristics of a school. One and a half storey, four bay rendered and painted building under a pitched gabled roof of slate tiles. One stack. Windows and doors are modern uPVC. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the school was built as a Free School in 1712 and rebuilt in 1812. By 1872 it was funded as part of the National system of schools and educated children of both sexes. {2} The building's plan form does not change between the time of the 1906 and 1950 OS maps, nor has it changed significantly since, though the rear elevation may possibly have been extended slightly in the late 20th century. {3}{4}
