Full Description

Former school building dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Two bay one and a half storey rendered building wth a plinth, under a pitched gabled roof, and a flat roof at the rear of the building. Square in plan. {1}{2} The 1950 OS map shows the building in the same plan form, and it appears to have still been a school at this time. {3} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that a school was built in Riby in 1848. White's 1872 Directory states that this school was closed 'in consequence of other arrangements, made under the "Elementary Education Act, 1870"', though no new school is listed in the parish. It is assumed that this building is a later school built to replace the one mentioned by White. {4}{5}
