Full Description
'The Rectory' is now Wyberton Park, a house with a frontage dated 1761 and some interior 17th century work. The owner recollects having seen documentary evidence that the 'moat' was a series of clay pits, dug for the original building of about 1650 and later converted to ornamental ponds. The ponds appear to be purely ornamental and never part of a continuous feature. Published survey (25 inch) revised. {1}
At TF 329 407 - Wyberton Hall. Rectangular moat on aerial photographs in pasture and orchard. {2}
OS map shows two small rectangular ponds lying to east and west of Hall. Shows large reversed L-shaped pond to the east of the house. {3}
Wyberton Park is a Grade II* Listed house, formerly a rectory. It is incorrectly shown as a Rectory on the Ordnance Survey map. The building was built in 1689 but was largely rebuilt in 1761 by Dr. John Shaw. {4}
