Full Description

Post office of probable mid 19th century date, at Silver Street. The building is mentioned White's Directory of 1872, where a John Houseman is listed as the postmaster. The building is not mentioned in White's earlier Directory of 1856, and no postmaster is listed, suggesting the current structure dates to approximately 1860. The building is of two storeys, and largely built of red brick, though with decorative use of yellow and blue bricks for the window and door surrounds, quoins and string course. The pitched roof is covered with slates, with single brick chimney stacks at both gable ends. An early wall style of red post-box is incorporated into the northernmost ground floor window. {1}{2}
