Full Description

A masonic hall of probable 19th century origin. It can be seen in the late 19th century 1st edition Ordnance Survey map. {1} An 1843 newspaper article mentions a fire breaking out "in the Freemasons' lodge at Spalding". This is possibly the same building as the current masonic hall {2}. A building appears to be located on the same site in Grundy's 1732 map of Spalding. The plot of land is annotated as belonging to Mr Kemp. It is possible that there was a previous building on the same site {3}. The current masonic hall is a two storey building constructed of red brick; the hip roof has slate tiles {4}. A northern extension was added at some time between 1968 and 1974. {5}{6}
