Full Description

The Cowbit Road brewery in Spalding was opened in 1809 by local businessman Henry Bugg. The business passed to family memebrs until the late 19th century, when the business was taken over by the Soames family. The brewery was part of the Soames & Co. firm until it was bought by Steward & Patteson in 1949. S & P were a brewing firm from Norfolk; they replaced the brewery with a depot which closed in 1967. The remaining brewery buildings were demolished in the 1980s and were replaced by a small housing estate. Westbourne House, which fronted the brewey, was inhabited by the Bugg family. {1}
