Full Description

Large painted stone and brick built inn, under a pitched gabled slate roof, in asymmetrical T-plan form. Three ridge stacks and one lateral stack on front elevation, one ridge stack on cross-bay to the rear. Arched entryway into rear yard for coaches. Associated with a large group of outbuildings forming a rectangular courtyard, possibly in use alongside the inn as a farming complex (MLI118722). White's 1856 Trade Directory lists Robert Morris as a 'maltster & vict.' (victualler), and White's 1872 Directory lists Thomas Morris as 'farmer, maltster, and victualler', suggesting possible brewing activities on the site during the 19th century. {1}{2}{3}{4}
