Full Description

Former school building, now in use as an LCC owned youth centre. 19th century detached red brick building in Flemish Bond, under a steeply pitched gabled tile roof. Lancet windows of timber with decorative brick surrounds. There is a more modern extension to the west elevation. Street facing elevation has ornate cast iron railings affixed into brick wall with brick piers topped with stone capping. The building is marked as a school on both the 1888 and 1905 OS maps of Ruskington. {1}{2}{3} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the school, with residence for a master and mistress, was built in 1868, at a cost of £1200, raised by subscription, government grant, and a donation by the Dowager Countess of Winchelsea. It replaced a previous school built in 1824, and was attended by 134 pupils of both sexes. {4}
