Full Description
Two associated lime works, one on St Mary's Lane and the other on Grimsby Road can be seen in early 19th century mapping. The northernmost was also home to the deepest lime pit in Louth, which produced agricultural lime. The limeworks possibly date as far back as the mid-18th century. The opening of the Louth Navigation Canal in 1770 facilitated the transportation of coal into Louth, this led to increased use of lime kilns in the town. The lime works ceased operating at some point in the mid 20th century. {1}{2}{3}
