Full Description

A Neolithic long barrow has been identified in this location to the north-west of Thorpe Farm, with the site being scheduled in January 2023. The barrow is located near to the crest of a hill, on land that slopes to the east and north-east towards an un-named stream. It is visible as clearly defined cropmarks on aerial photographs taken of this area in 1968 and 2010, with cropmarks of a probable Bronze Age round barrow also visible to the south-east (see MLI126213). The long barrow appears as a U-shaped ditch, aligned on a north-north-east to south-south-west axis and open at the northern end. It measures approximately 50m by 22m, tapering to 15m at the southern end. The barrow is not visible on the ground to the naked eye, and there is no trace of a mound that can be seen in the landscape. {1}{2}{3}{4}
