Full Description

Row of four attached almshouses at Market Rasen Road. The houses were built in 1910, using money provided in the will of Mrs Amelia Margaretta Jameson Dixon. They were built by local craftsmen Jonathan Mills and George Saunby, possibly to the designs of the architect H.G. Gamble of Lincoln. The row consists of two single-storeys house in the middle, with single, two-storeys houses at each end. The houses are brick-built, with pantiled roofs and an iron fence and gates to the front. The roofs have diamond-shaped chimneys and there is decorative dentillation to the gable ends. A central plaque reads 'My song shall be always of the loving kindness of the Lord. July 14 1910 Welbore Bp (Bishop) of Grantham Blessed these houses. Herein let steadfast love abide; May joy and peace dwell side by side; And whatsoever shall befall: God's spirit rule and lead you all. Aim ever life to lead aright; Make ready for God's cause to fight; Reject the ill, Approve the just; Armed each one soberly in trust; Duty to do in every day: And so excel in honour's way.' {1}{2}{3}
