A marl pit is depicted in this location on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map. The site is labelled as an 'Old Marl Pit', suggesting that extraction had ceased by the time the map was drawn. {1} The former extraction site can be clearly discernible as earthworks on the Google Maps aerial photographic layer. {2}
