Full Description

A gas works complex is depicted in this location on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map. The depiction shows the works to have comprised a main range of buildings with an adjacent gas holder. The works would have provided a private supply of gas to the Brocklesby Estate buildings, and likely date to some time in the second half of the 19th century. The works appear to have been relatively short-lived, and the site is not depicted on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map, with the gas holder having been removed by the time of this survey in 1905. It is likely that gas was subsequently provided to the Brocklesby Hall buildings from the larger gas works site at Great Limber (see MLI125974). {1}{2}
