Full Description

A gas works complex is depicted in this location on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map. The depiction shows the works to have comprised a main range of buildings with an adjacent gas holder. The works would have provided a private supply of gas to the Brocklesby Estate buildings at Great Limber and Brocklesby, and likely date to some time in the second half of the 19th century. It is not clear exactly when gas production stopped on the site, but it is likely to have been some point in the mid 20th century. Most of the former gasworks buildings are still extant, with the former gashouse now in use as a private residence, although the former gas holder has since been removed. {1}{2}
