Full Description

Boundary wall at the former coastguard station at Gibraltar Point, likely built at the same time as the station in 1858. The wall is constructed of red brick, with rounded bricks used for the top coping. The wall originally formed a full rectangular boundary around the coastguard station, but has been demolished in places, and is only fully extant on the southern and eastern sides. The wall is marked with numerous graffiti of initials, names, dates, signs and symbols. Where legible, all of the graffiti dates to 1915, and appears to have been created by a troop of Boy Scouts who were employed at the station to act as semaphore signallers and coastal lookouts. {1}{2}
