Full Description

19th century milestone at Benington, to the north of the junction of the A52 with Butterwick Road. It is triangular in plan, and made of cast-iron. It is inscribed 'BENINGTON' in the top panel, with 'BOSTON 5 MILES' and 'WAINFLEET 13 MILES' in the respective side panels. {1} The milestone is depicted in this location on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map. {2} No trace of the milestone was found in early 2020, during inspection visits conducted as part of a condition survey of historic milestones in Boston Borough. The milestone could also not be discerned on any of the Google Street View imagery for this area, suggesting it has not been extant since at least 2008. {3}{4}
