Full Description

19th century milestone on the A52 at Old Leake, to the east of the junction with Shaw Lane. It is triangular in plan, and made of cast-iron. It is inscribed 'LEAKE' in the top panel, with 'BOSTON 8M' and 'WAINFLEET 10M' in the respective side panels. {1} The milestone is shown on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map, although it is depicted a little distance away to the north, on the Old Main Road. It was likely moved from that location soon after the Old Leake bypass road on which it now sits was built. {2} The milepost was inspected as part of a condition survey of historic milestones in Boston Borough, conducted in early 2020. It was found to be in a relatively fair condition at that time, although the paint had flaked from all the surfaces and the post was becoming quite rusty. {3}
