Full Description

A surface scatter found directly after ploughing and close to a slight mound. There is evidence of a ditch surrounding the mound. The pottery includes Nene Valley colour coated ware and other colour coats, Samian, rusticated grey ware, Dalesware type grey ware with Hadrianic type rims. There is a large proportion of Samian, about 12%. There are saltern sites to the south. {1}{2} A ditched enclosure about half an acre in area, in association with a concentration of Romano-British pottery. There is an unusual proportion of Samian (about 12%). There are four circles to south (about 100 to 200 yards away) and about 20 to 30 feet in diameter. There is a reddish soil and they appear to be salterns but there is no saltern pottery. However, near these circles and away from the main concentration of Romano-British material there is some light brown Corby pottery (calcite grits dissolved out?) some of which could be hand-made but is very abraded. {3}{4} TF215411: Romano-British pottery has been found from this location. {5}{6}
