Full Description

Several early post-medieval artefacts were found in this location in May 2019, during archaeological monitoring of residential development on land adjacent to West Haven, Main Street. The assemblage was comprised of two sherds of late 17th to 18th century pottery, and a stem from an early 18th century clay smoking pipe. The pottery sherds were from different vessels, with one being a large Black-glazed Earthenware jar, and the other being a Staffordshire-type Slipware cup with a purple slip, giving a dark brown external glaze with trailed yellow decoration. The assemblage had been recovered from the topsoil deposit, and was thought to represent redeposited domestic waste. {1]{2}
