Full Description

The hostel is located to the north of the main building at Bardney Sugar Factory. It was built in 1969 to house temporary, foreign factory workers, replacing the use of Nissen huts. The two storey, double pile building was constructed out of yellow-brown brick, with two gabled roofs. There were 14 dormitory rooms, a large recreation room, a laundry and several toilets and bathrooms split over the two floors. The sugar factory stopped using foreign workers in 1976, and the number of people using the hostel decreased. Some of the rooms on the top floor were converted into office space, and housed the Agricultural Research & Development department. The building was vacated when the factory stopped processing sugar beet in 2001. {1}{2}
