Full Description

The remains of a rectangular enclosure can be seen as cropmarks on an aerial photograph of this area. The cropmarks are quite prominent in the photograph, with clear ditch lines and sharp edges, suggesting a relatively recent date for the feature. No enclosure matching these dimensions is depicted on historical Ordnance Survey mapping of this area, however, which would suggest it had gone out of use by the late 19th century, and therefore suggesting a probable early post-medieval date for its origin. The enclosure appears to have used the course of a former stream as its northern boundary, suggesting it may have functioned as an animal pen, possibly as a place to water and wash livestock. {1}
