Full Description

Earthworks of medieval ridge and furrow, to the south-west of Sturton by Stow. Identified on aerial photographs examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. {1} The remains are clearly visible as prominent earthworks on the Google Maps aerial photographic layer. The furrows in the northern fields are aligned on a roughly east to west axis, whilst those in the southern fields are aligned on a roughly north to south axis, indicating a division of the open field system here. {2} Parts of the ridge and furrow remains were the subject of a programme of earthwork survey, conducted in May 2019 to inform proposed residential development on land off Saxilby Road. Prominent earthwork remains of north to south aligned ridge and furrow were recorded across the surveyed field. {3}{4}
