Full Description

Earthworks of medieval ridge and furrow, to the west of Sturton by Stow. Identified on aerial photographs examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. {1} Parts of the ridge and furrow remains were the subject of a programme of earthwork survey, conducted in November 2016 to inform proposed residential development on land off Marton Road. The survey recorded clearly defined earthworks of medieval ridge and furrow, running along a roughly east to west axis in the northernmost surveyed field, and in a roughly north to south axis in the southernmost surveyed field. The remains in the southernmost field appeared to be divided into two adjacent blocks by a former headland or boundary, visible as a north to south aligned earthwork. {2}{3}
