Full Description

About half a mile south of the abbey of Swineshead, there was formerly a chapel of Ease which belonged to the abbey and was used as a burial place. Many coins have been dug up there at various times. 'Chapel Ground' is shown on OS 6inch map at TF 2472 3965. {1}{2} An excavation was undertaken last year (1964) at TF 2486 3973, by the Headmaster of Cowley's Secondary School, Swineshead. Skulls, bones, 16th to 17th century pottery, tile and moulded fragments were found but only very small quantities of building material. The stone is believed to have been used in the extensions of Swineshead Church. {3}
