Full Description

Former farmhouse dating to around the 1720s. Subdivided into two private residences in the late 19th or early 20th century. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} The original structure of Washdyke is built of stone and was extant by at least 1722 and has gone through several alterations since. The building was subdivided into two dwellings for agricultural labourers in the late 19th century. For this, the original farmhouse front door was blocked and a door was added to the eastern subdivision. During this time there were some additions to the building that have since been lost. In the mid 20th century, c.1947-48, the largest additions were constructed. These consisted of two brick extensions to the western and eastern ends of the building. Later in the 20th century a workshop was added to the eastern side of the house and a garage detached to the west of the house. {2}{3}{4}
