Full Description
A cart shed, with granary and dovecote above, located in the northern range of the main farm building complex at Hall Farm. They were recorded as part of a programme of historic building recording that took place in November 2017, prior to the building's conversion to residential use. The cart shed is found in the western portion of the range. It is a two storey building, constructed out of coursed limestone, with dressed stone quoins and detailing around the window openings. It has a pitched, timber-framed roof, covered with slates. The cart shed has 6 bays, which are open to the north, with segmental brick arches and bull-nosed brick pillars. There are 2 window openings in the northern and 3 openings in the southern elevations. The upper floor of the cart shed is accessed by an external brick staircase, located on the southern elevation. There are 3 rooms on the upper floor. The largest is located at the east end of the building, and contains remnants of machinery used to mill flour. The central room is thought to be a granary. The last room, located at the western end of the building, is a dovecote. The dovecote has nesting boxes lining the 3 internal walls, built using stone slabs with brick pillars. The birds gain access to the dovecote through high in the western elevation. The cart shed is thought to date to the mid 19th century. {1}{2}
