Full Description
A small barn and cart shed, located on the north side of the Hall Farm farmstead. The building was recorded as part of the programme of historic building recording that was carried out in November 2017, prior to its conversion into a residential dwelling. The barn and cart shed is a single storey building, constructed out of coursed limestone, with brick detailing at the corners and openings. The bricks around the openings are bull-nosed to prevent injury to the animals that pass through the entranceways. The roof is timber-framed, and is covered with slates. The western end of the building is the cart shed, which has 5 bays, and is open to the north. The eastern end of the building is the small barn, which appears to have also been used as a fodder store and preparation area. It has a single door opening on the northern elevation, which has a small, modern porch-like addition built around the door. There is a door opening on the southern elevation, which has been modified to be double width to allow access for modern equipment. There is also a window opening in the eastern elevation. The interior walls of the barn are constructed out of brick laid in Garden Wall bond. The barn and cart shed are thought to date to the mid 19th century. {1}{2}
