Full Description

The walled garden is located south-west of the main complex of farm buildings on Towngate House Farm. It was likely built at the same time as the farmhouse, in or shortly after 1864 (see PRN 36046). It is bounded by a coursed limestone wall, which encloses a sub-rectagular area that is 37m by 28m. The garden is accessed by an opening in the northern wall, and by a doorway in the eastern wall. Much of the western wall, and the interior of the eastern wall has been replaced or repaired with brick laid in stretcher bond with half round capping bricks. The garden was recorded as part of a programme of historic building recording, conducted in January 2009, prior to the residential conversion of the farm buildings. At the time of recording, ranges of single story, breeze block animal shelters had been installed along the northern and eastern walls of the garden, and the garden itself was very overgrown. {1}{2}
