Full Description
Part of the old Bozon Hall, probably the brick shell and chimney stack, are incorporated in a modernised small house in King's Road, Kirton: A most unimpressive building. The moat is ploughed out. Published survey (25inch) revised. Now a lorry depot. {1}
There appears to have been a manorial site here since at least the early medieval period, and Bozon Hall is first mentioned specifically in documentary sources in 1377. An archaeological evaluation to the south of Wash Road revealed part of the moat ditch, which appears to have been infilled during the 18th century when the land was enclosed. Several structures were found within the confines of the moat; presumably these were associated with the manorial complex. These structures include a possible smithy which appears to have been operational during the post medieval period, although metal working there may have originated as early as the late Saxon period. Further settlement remains were also found outside the moat (see PRN 13868). {2}{3}
