Full Description

Mercer Wood Academy, off Ropery Road in Gainsborough, opened on the 6 May 1907 as the Gainsborough Ropery Road Council School. It had Mixed and Infants departments. The Mixed deparment was split into Girls and Boys from 1915. The school was reorganised into Junior and Senior Mixed Schools from April 1939. The schools were renamed County Primary and Secondary Modern Schools in 1947. The schools were renamed again in 1956, with the secondary school becoming Gainsborough North Secondary School, and the primary school becoming Gainsborough North County Primary School. The secondary school closed in 1985. The primary school became the Gainsborough North County School in 1999. It is now running as Mercer Wood Academy. The building is single story, and is built out of red brick. {1}{2}
