Full Description

The original keeper's house for Holbeach Cemetery. Built of red brick with ashlar stone dressings, and features steeply pitched, overhanging roofs. It likely dates to 1854, when Holbeach Cemtery began to be established. {1}{2} According to the Lincoln, Rutland and Stamford Mercury of 16th June 1854, a large number of plans for the cemetery chapels (see PRN 25207) and lodge were submitted to the Holbeach Burial Board. The board are said to have selected the plans of Nicholson and Drury of Lincoln as the preferred design, with the cost of the lodge set at £200. Given that William Adams Nicholson had died in 1853, the plans which were submitted are very likely to be the work of Michael Drury. {3}
