Full Description

These outbuildings at White House Farm were built in the mid to late 19th century, and first appear on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map from 1888. The southern range is a single storey, three room building with a gabled, timber frame roof that is covered with modern corrugated metal sheeting. There are red ceramic ridge tiles along the apex of the roof. The height of this range was increased by several courses of modern bricks around the mid 20th century. The southern, eastern, and western elevations are built out of brick, laid in an English Garden Wall bond. The southern elevation shows evidence of repairs, likely completed at the same time as the height addition, and has a double door opening and two small windows. The west end of the southern elevation is enclosed within a modern extension. The northern elevation is built out of brick in a mixture of English Garden Wall bond and English bond, and has two windows. The west end of this elevation has had a door opening added to it during the modern period. This portion of the northern elevation is also covered by the central range of the outbuilding. The central range is a single storey, single room building with a gabled, timber frame roof that is hipped on the southern end. The roof is covered with modern corrugated sheeting. This range is bonded to the north and south ranges of the building, and it open on the east elevation. The western elevation is built out of brick, laid in English Garden Wall bond, and has one door opening. The east end of the northern range is a two storey, four room building with a gabled, timber frame roof, covered with modern corrugated sheeting. It is built out of brick laid in English Garden Wall bond. There are shadows of former roof lines visible in the brick work of the southern elevation, suggesting that the courtyard that the ranges surround would have been covered in the past. The southern elevation also has a timber door, with timber weather boarding on either side. A modern single storey lean-to has been built off the northern elevation. The west end of the northern range is a single storey, four room building, with a gabled, timber frame roof. The south side of the roof is covered with red clay pantiles, while the north side of the roof is covered with modern corrugated metal sheeting. This portion of the building is built out of brick, laid in English Garden Wall bond. The southern elevation has a small section of modern breeze block infilling. These outbuildings were recorded during a program of historic building recording in March 2017, prior to their conversion to residential dwellings. {1}{2}{3}
