Full Description

Barn, located in the centre of the Hollies farmstead, near Whaplode Drove. It was built in the mid-late 19th century. The barn was recorded as part of a programme of historic building recording in February 2017, prior to being converted into a residential dwelling. The barn is a single storey, 3 bay building, with a gabled timber frame roof. The roof cover is unknown as it had been removed prior to recording, but was likely pantiles or slate based on the angle of the pitch. The barn is built in brick, laid in alternating 3 courses of stretchers and 1 course of headers in English Garden Wall bond. The western elevation has a small, timber framed window opening in the upper portion of the elevation. The eastern elevation has a single door opening, covered with a timber door. The majority of the southern elevation is open, but two short sections of modern brick wall have been added to the opening of the central and western bays. The northern elevation has 2 small window openings, as well as two sections of modern brick infilling where a northern wing and a northern return were demolished in the early 20th century. The interior is divided into 3 bays and has been whitewashed, and has a brick floor. {1}{2}
