Full Description

A three-bay concrete pillbox of the Second World War Coastal Crust, to the east of Sea View Farm, Saltfleetby. It consists of two roofed parts joined by an open central bay, where a light anti-aircraft gun would have been mounted. It faces to the north-east, with embrasures in the roofed parts, though is now overgrown and buried to the embrasure level. {1}{2}{3} The pillbox was examined in detail in September 2019, during a site visit by staff of Lincolnshire County Council, Natural England and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. The pillbox was found to be in very good condition, although was half-filled with sand. The grain of the wooden planking used to form the concrete walls remained clearly visible inside, particularly on the embrasures. The northern most bay of the pillbox retained all but one of the steel fittings beneath each embrasure to which the machine guns would have been secured. {4}
