Full Description
A hoard of largely 4th century Roman coins was found in this location in 1956, during the excavation of new drainage trenches to the rear of 91 Broadway.
'The coins were found in a uniform layer of dark occupation material rather over two feet thick containing 4th century pottery and animal bones.'
The hoard consisted of 78 coins in total, all small bronze coins and mostly of the 4th century, though with some earlier issues included. The coins ranged from issues of Faustina I to Gratian (140 - 383 AD). Most of the coins were acquired by Lincoln Museum. {1}
