Full Description

A complex of anomalies were found during a magnetic gradiometer survey by The University of York They were tentatively interpreted as an artificial rabbit warren of the type that were reasonably common features in the later medieval and post medieval periods. The features comprised a circular 'pillow' mound with a surrounding ditch; the mound being built over a radial pattern of slots, some of which were capped with stones, although the rabbits often elaborated upon the original burrow pattern. It dates to the post medieval period and would have probably gone out of use by the time of Brampton enclosure in 1779. {1}{2}
