Full Description

The Victorian Church of St Martin was built in 1873, as a replacement for the medieval church of the same name, located off the High Street (see PRN 70553). The plan form of the church is depicted on historic Ordnance Survey mapping of this area until 1976, by which point the building had been demolished, to make way for the new Lancaster House. Demolition deposits relating to the removal of the church were noted in November 2016, during the excavation of geotechnical test pits on the site. {1}
