Full Description

19th century school building, forming part of the current North Cotes C. of E. Primary School. T-shape plan one/one and a half storey red brick building in English Bond, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. Burnt brick diapering below windows. Brick plinth. Front gable has a pointed trefoil arch window dressed in stone. Other windows are modern uPVC replacement 2 over 2 awning windows. Two large gable stacks, one of which is original and has brick tumbling above the level of the gable. Polychromatic string course below eaves. Modern flat roofed brick classrooms have been constructed on the site in the later 20th or early 21st century. {1} North Coates National School was opened in 1870. It was constructed at a cost of £456, and was attended in 1872 by 60 children of both sexes. {2}{3} The building is shown in the same T-shape plan form on the 1887, 1906, and 1951 OS maps of North Coates. {4}{5}{6}
