Full Description
Former school and schoolmaster’s house, converted for residential use. Constructed of red brick in English Bond, in neo-Gothic style, under steeply pitched gabled roofs of slate. Three and two light pointed trefoil arch windows with leaded lights, stone window dressings and brick decoration above. One large lateral stack. A modern brick-built extension was constructed to the south in the late 20th century. {1}
White’s 1872 states that a Free School was founded in the village in 1676. This building appears to be the new school and schoolmaster’s house White mentions being built in 1854. The original site of the school is unknown. {2}
The building is shown in its current plan form on the 1888, 1906, and 1951 OS maps of North Thoresby. It is unclear when the school closed, though it is not labelled as a school on the 1906 and 1951 maps. {3}{4}{5}
