Full Description

The remains of a large medieval pit was recorded in this location in January 2016, during trial trenching on land off Sunnydale Close. The pit measured at least 3.9m by 1.5m, although its full extent was not revealed. Sherds of pottery dating from the 11th to 12th centuries were recovered from the fill of the pit, and it was thought likely that the feature was associated with the nearby medieval saltworking activity in this area (see PRN 27255). A small quantity of animal bone, largely comprised of the remains of cattle, was also recovered from the fill of the pit. {1}{2}
